Holiday Gift Fails – Why A Clean Home Is The Winner

The holidays are a magical time. We all want to find that perfect present for our loved ones to commemorate the season. But sometimes…the gifts fall flat. This year, before you type ‘perfect gifts’ into your search, let’s look at three traditional gifts you should quit giving. And guess what? We have the perfect substitute.

1. The dust collector

Sometimes you get desperate and give a gift just to have an item to wrap. Maybe it’s a little cactus in a cute pot, or a kitschy figurine that caught your eye. While it’s true that it’s the thought that counts, these items often only appeal to the giver and not the recipient. So what happens? They end up in a closet, gathering dust, or worse, becoming another chore to keep clean. Our homes are already full of memories and decorative items, and adding a random item to the mix is not always the best idea.

2. The DIY kit

DIY kits line the shelves during the holiday season, and we’ve all been tempted. Artsy ideas, build-your-own birdhouses, crafts…these gifts promise hours of fun. For some, they deliver. But for many others, they become a source of guilt. That unfinished – or even unopened – project stares from the corner of the room, a silent reminder of something you should be doing. The holiday season is already packed with commitments, and giving someone a new project can make them feel like they have less time for actual relaxation. Plus, they now have to hide the evidence when you come over.

3. The kitchen gadget that is never used

The latest chopper, blender, specialty avocado slicer, popcorn maker…kitchen gadgets can seem like incredibly practical gifts. We picture people using them with joy. The reality? Many get used once or twice, then pushed back of a cabinet. Or worse, they take up counter space and turn into just another item that needs to be cleaned.
